I've found that prayer is the best way (for me) to approach this kind of thing.
Just tell God what your desires are (be detailed and specific) and then ask Him/Her to offer you whatever He knows is best. Just pray, 'Thy will be done.'
Remember that God answers ALL prayers, but not necessarily how we want Him to. Indeed the answer may be a 'no', but only if that's what's best.
