To my fellow traditional veterans of the Navajo Nation. This is for you and to the families of those warriors. I don't say I know much but the following is what I pass on to troubled veterans frustrated with their healing or have no direction on how to find healing in the old ways.
"You say that medicine men charge high prices for their ceremonies and that some have evil intent?
This is what I was told and understand. A medicine man would only kill himself along with you if he doest do the ceremonies right or has evil intent. All warriors are recognized by the Holy People in this sense, even if you left without their protection prayers. This is a given understanding over in western agency.
Of course some medicine people charge so much but the correct way to take care of your veteran, as in the old days, was to have your family or people pay for your recovery. Not you!
Enemy Slayer, as told to me, was saved by his brother's ceremony, Scalp Taker or Cuts His Enemies Hearts Out (Born for Water) when the Enemy Way was 1st used.
Your healing should be discussed with your family and the right kind of ceremonies should be prescribed. Ask your uncles, if you have them, or a clan headmen about this.
Your mind is still hostile and it's still out there, looking for a fight. Your people are not your antagonist. You are. I was like that.
When I finally returned for good, my family, the medicine man, returned me, back to the land, family, kin by doing a Hozho gii where I followed the foot steps of the corn meal back into the hogan and they conducted an all night Beauty Way chant for me.
The next year, they did an Enemy Way and brought men over for the Lightning Way, Wind Way, Hunting Way, and etc, and finish with a blackening of all the different nationalities I was in contact with.
I'm not 100% whole as I use to be but each day is a new day to recovery. It will cost you but that's where your people should help. It should be a family affair concerning logistics if not the ceremony itself. And there is nothing wrong with going back out afterwards and to continue protecting your mother land because you are now recognized by your given warrior name and protected by the Holy Ones." Aho.
I just wanted to post some real "NDN" here. This tells more about my people.
