Bad life-long wait before reincarnation?
What do different teachers say about if a person had a particularly rough life incarnation? Can they wish to put off reincarnating for a while?

It is said that we are here to Learn, some lessons are really hard to take.but again it is said we learn from them.we learn from each life time.until we have learnt enough to Evolve enough that we don't have to come back anymore,
I have lived many life times but this one is the hardest one.but I wont be back this is my final life time.and I have no desire to come back either.
some people take years to reincarnate but a child who passes can and do come back quicker.

My understanding is the same as Native Spirit regarding reincarnating until we reach a certain level of knowledge or spiritual growth.

It is my understanding that between lives we work with our guides and close spiritual support (other spirits) to review the past life, what lessons were learned, what were some other choices we might have made at critical points and potential outcomes and then determine what we will focus on in our next life and what would be the best incarnation for us.
I don’t believe that there is a minimum or maximum amount of “time” required between incarnations as I don’t believe that time exists in our Spiritual Plane as we know it here on Earth.
To you question, I believe that we can put off our next incarnation indefinitely, waiting for a particular body or situation or any other possible reason... BUT once they have completed their work reviewing their last life and planning for the next one I believe that they may be eager to return to Earth and begin their next incarnation and lessons to work on. Unless they have completed their learning, as noted by Native Spirit above.

The way I see it, your question raises several points ...
1. When you die, you wake up to a different you than the one you are now.
2. The time we experience here doesn't have a corresponding time on the afterlife plane.
3. We are here to learn to create, as far as I know, not to learn pain, pay for something we did in another life, not even to learn love.
4. Again, as far as I know, "up there" there is no anthropomorphic plane, with entities behaving like humans, looking like humans, having similar goals and way of thinking like humans. Those who die might live under some illusion until they fully wake up.
As a comparison, here on Earth, when we wake up after a nightmare, we don't skip the rest of the night's sleep, or the next night's sleep to recover. It was just a nightmare.

Abraham says we are always very eager to come back. I do not believe I will be!

I find it interesting that most people who believe in reincarnation don't want to reincarnate again (at least that's my impression).

Agree, and an interesting observation. That could be because life is viewed through the lens of the incarnated human mind and not from the perspective of the spirit when between incarnations?

... Agreed.
I wonder if, for some people, this belief in reincarnation is more of a hope, similarly to the hope religions bring to their followers. On the same lines, karma is the stick people might fear, even when they think nobody is watching them, here on Earth.

When you cross over, you will see what this life has all been about. Your own Soul will decide whether or not to come back, and what for, and when.
