Gem mining

well some mines, people may not be allowed into for whatever reasons and some gems you may not be able to keep depending on where you live, like, for example, here where I live, if you find gold in ny, you can't keep it, which is stupid in my opinion otherwise most you're allowed to keep.
@DaughterofDanu was it hiddenite you went to? I've been there as well, very fun, very messy,I found pyrite, aquamarine, fluorite, smokey quartz, amethyst, jasper, rose quartz and citrine. next time I want to try the Cherokee ruby and sapphire mine

The place I went to was in Franklin NC. I don't think there's any one crystal that they're known for there, but I recall there was a lot of semi-precious and precious stones, rubies, sapphires, emerald. We were able to keep everything we found and at one of the mines they offered to make jewelry out of the precious stones that were big enough and then send them to us. I had an emerald ring made and my mother had a star ruby pendant made.

@Azmond the mines I went to were business establishments so I don't know if there were standalone mines to visit.This was back when I was in my early teens so I wasn't the one who did the research or planned the trip. I think we paid for mining the entire day/unlimited buckets of dirt which we scooped ourselves. They used backhoes to bring in mounds of dirt.

I've been wanting to go back so badly, altogether the trip was great and the atmosphere/forests/weather was gorgeous.
