The Winter Queen

THE WINTER QUEEN

She came with Winter winds from Hell-
An angel-witch did ye but know.
Was I spellbound by her sparkle?
What was that glint upon the snow?

Ah..! So late her lips to offer.
The clink of ice and magic in the air.
Oh..! Do recall my aching passion-
The scent of snowflakes in her hair

Her ladden boughs rising, falling-
Two shadows cast within the fire.
To claim the night and melt the season-
To tame the chill and taste desire.

To place her chalice on my mantle-
To lay my sword upon her breast.
T'is but a Winter's mighty blizzard-
When spirits love and rise from rest.

Anoint my brow with perfumed water-
Rest my crown upon the hearth.
Sleep with me in silent darkness-
Deep within the frozen earth.

So long ago I won her favor-
Placed a jewel upon her hand.
She was my Winter Queen and woman-
And, I, her Holly King and man.

Come....die with me among the snowdrifts-
Through time and space and sifting sands.
But, hold fast our Winter dreaming-
When we shall rise and love again.
