Interesting read Baile.

And I agree about the evangelicals. They are over the top scary. The scariest part is they think 'God' is on their side. Righteous indignation.

Well, nobody likes being criticized, but in my culture, if I praise somebody the same way I sometimes see Americans do, everyone would think I'm just being dishonest and pretentious. In the culture I have grown up in, if you have only tons of ....

We Americans are taught that as teaching professionals to give a few praises before a criiticism.

Where do those statistics come from please? That only 35% of Europeans believe in God!

So many affects by so many directions mix from birth order to having a Latin background.

I think asking if people believe in God or not is not the best way to measure secularism, because "God" can mean different things to different people.

But it's clear for anyone who has observed both that Europe, particularly Northern Europe, is much more secular than USA is, for one example the school I went to had 100 kids, to my knowledge 5 of them were from Christian families. Church going rate in my country is something like 3-4%, meaning that 3-4% of people go to church monthly or weekly.

It's not as much about committed atheism/agnosticism as it's about just not paying any attention to religion and religion enjoying very little public status. In Finland, if you tell to people, particularly young people, that you go to church, they'll look at you like it's a wierd, old fashioned thing to do.
