Hi Starman.--and all.

What you say--"know thy self"--is sound advice Imo also. --especially understanding what motivates your own behaviour, for that helps greatly in understanding what may be motivating the behaviour of others, being able to do so is an aspect of empathy, able to place yourself in someone else's shoes, seeing through their eyes.

Empathy and love are also connected. Connection is everywhere, cause and consequence upon cause and consequence, jumping time, jumping space, the total and inevitable interconnected reality of existence. We are all of it, never simply observers of it. Understanding through objectivity is and has been useful--it has brought us to the understanding of this connection-- but as part of, rather than simply observers of, empathy will allow us fuller understanding so I believe--not an intellectual understanding, but a knowing regardless of our individual intellectual capacity or "intelligence". --for such knowing is not I think elitist for of such is separateness.--and we are not separate.
