Standard Reference on Crystals?

Hi,
Is there a book considered to be a standard reference on crystals and their uses? I see all kinds of stuff out here on the internet, but I still find a good book that is generally agreed upon as a standard reference work to be useful. I'm really looking for something about why crystals are used for healing, energy, etc., what rationale behind such uses exists, etc.

The go-to books for crystals are Judy Hall's books, both the guides and the prescriptions.
As for a book on the why... Don't know if there are any to be honest. Crystals have been used from Lemurian times onward, so it's part of our heritage. We've always done it, apart from maybe during the churches heyday as then it was likely considered evil and witchcraft.
The Atlantean civilisation thrived on crystal energy, but then we're not talking about small clusters or tumbles.

If you're looking for purely scientific... no idea.

I do not know if any book can give one the "what rationale behind such uses exists" as they are a part of our world makeup. Been here long before we came to be here, and hold a power or energy that we just have come to know and accept.

Sciences works on logic to understand how things work and why they work. We are of two minds one is that science logic side the other is that 6th sense side we often call intuition. It all comes down to what we open to believe and feel is right for us.

The Crystal Bible is a good "base reference" but it all I feel comes down to what we find in knowledge that calls true to our own individual path.

Please keep in mind I am very new. Someone with more experience recommended this link and while you asked for a book, I found this reference to have many layers of information. I usually read from many multiple sources, then after some time I draw my own conclusions as to my personal experience with that crystal. After that, after some more time, I 'feel' like I 'know' what a particular crystal is good/used for, at the very least, for me.

Most crystal shops have reference books that you can flick through. Michael Gienger has a simple A-Z guide which is good.

My favorite book is Love is in the Earth by Melody. I thought it was the most popular gem and crystal book in metaphysical book stores.
