Potato Superfood Combo

Hello to all.

For the past three days I have been doing a detox fast..Just water, apple cider vinegar and black coffee.

After rheumatic pain in my toes and fibromyalgia pain in the connective tissue in my chest (costochondritis), I was left with no choice but to take drastic action.

Today, I broke my fast with something I concocted and something that is going to actually become a staple food for me, eating 1-2 bowls of it daily.

Ingredients:

2 medium size potatoes OR 2 cups Bhasmati Rice
2 teaspoons grated turmeric (or turmeric powder)
1 teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper
2 cloves minced garlic
1 tablespoon mustard seed oil
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar (with mother)
1/2 teaspoon of ground Himalayan pink salt or sea salt
1/2 cup of finely chopped fresh cilantro (coriander)
2 fresh seeded chillies (finely chopped) or half teaspoon chilli powder (optional).

Method, boil potatoes OR rice until soft and tender...allow to cool until warm, then mash with a fork.

Add all other ingredients and keep on mashing until a uniform consistency is achieved...then eat.

This does away with the need to take three supplements for me.. and it actually tastes very yummy.

For an all-round experience, I'd like to serve it with sauteed bitter melon with kale and fenugreek sprouts whilst drinking filtered water with fresh lime and ginger.

Am I missing anything? don't think so, but I am still taking glucosamine and krill oil along with all this.

After 3 days of full fast, one day of eating just this, my pain everywhere has all but vanished and I was even able to do pilates this morning.. First time in a long time.

I kinda hate to comment because you are doing this regimen...and
do NOT want to discourage any detox.

I will say for "me"...what I know about rice and potatoes that would not work.

Rice is 1 of the most pesticide ridden foods...the rice paddies are horrible.
Unless organic.
Potatoes and their lectins drill holes in the thin outer lining of the intestines...
causing Leaky gut syndrome....one of the most undiagnosed
causes of so many health issues.

Look up Lectin Defense products...but I would investigate more of the Lectin healing/restorative products.

The list is short of the lectin foods...all the night shades, gluten, sugar, legumes, mainly.
And the coffee has got to be organic....oh brother, the countries that grow
coffee with no Govt control of the deadly chemicals they can use!

Things to check out..NAC, L-glutamine, pycnogenol, I think you will love what you read.

My 2 cents...you did ask what were you missing.

Thank you for that, Miss H, but it seems that I am at a total loss here...

I cannot personally eat wheat due to a gluten intolerance, I cannot eat corn because I am allergic to it, so now, potatoes and nightshades are out, rice is out due to pesticides, I can't eat legumes because I don't have the enzymes needed to digest them and they make me bloat and fart and cause abdominal pain and discomfort....breathanarianism anybody? Oh wait, the world is way too polluted for breathing purposes....suicide anybody?

If it doesn't work for you, fine! I should have made it clear that I ONLY wanted to hear from others who would not have any problems with it...who would actually agree with me, because it is totally pointless if people do not...A total waste of everybody's time.

I shall remember my "personal disclaimer" for next time I visit this forum...which will either be never, or when someone who isn't allergic to potatoes or rice posts something worth replying to in the Hindu forum.

I am starting to hate this place with a passion.

In any case, always seek medical advice or advice from a qualified dietitian before consuming any vegetable you may have fears that are causing a health concern for you, so as to ascertain or rule out that specific vegetable as being the cause.

I didn't know Shivani! I have celiac disease which in my case includes corn. Who'd a thunk it! We will have to talk of our journeys to maintaining health one day. And it has been a long and bumpy road on this side.

I eat some organic some not. I had literally bags of regular white rice to use up so have been eating that for the past 6 years (yes I had that much ) but when it is used up I will go to organic brown rice. 2 more bags to go!

People who are not limited in their foods they can eat just don't understand giving up rice and potatoes and other staples. Here in the United States corn is in literally everything. I have an article I will attach at the end of this post that explains what American companies are doing to us as a nation.

People like you and me need our comfort foods too! Leaky gut. ROFL! One of the things that can happen with celiac whether or not I eat potatoes and/or rice. No new news here. And my small intestines are so damaged now from repeated glutenings (always from cross contamination, not intentionally eating it) I am not digesting my foods well anymore. It's all part of the picture. I know in the end this disease will kill me someday.

Please don't leave Shivani, I've just found a comrade! Tell me you were just blowing smoke at the time.

Thank you Linen.

After a terrible past three weeks on here, I was seriously considering just leaving....

I've had everything, from being accused of being "possessed by demons" to another criticising my "lack of humility" then Miss H obviously not getting the fact that I am on a very restricted diet ALREADY and I am ONLY trying to help others out and offer kind advice from my own experience...leaving me thinking "aha! So THIS is how nice people become mean... because they keep on getting kicked in the rear for trying to be helpful to others".

I was almost going to ask "what affirmation do I need to say to get those who claim to be spiritual, to show some love, compassion and empathy towards me that they all SAY they have but I haven't seen it?"

So, fast forward to the past two days...I've had this guy in the Hindu Forum who has been trying to get me to join the Brahmakumaris cult for the past two years and won't take "sorry, I am not interested" for an answer...

I go into the Non Duality forum where another dude refuses to address me personally, but takes issue with others who agree with me - what a coward!

So yeah, after weeks of this, Miss H's post just made me snap...after her saying only a few weeks ago that she understood me ... apparently not. I felt let down.. henpecked... criticised...and I mean, she could have NOT replied to it eh?

Anyway, enough of my SF woes....If anything, my spiritual awakening has given me ZERO tolerance for other people's bulldust...and I can see that I am not the only one here.

You are just another down to earth member of this forum and one I can also call a good friend...I need to remember that I DO have them on here and to send them a PM when things get too much for me to handle and my "bull-o-meter" is going off the scale.

I have nothing against fasts and there is some evidence of benefits, but words like 'detox' and 'cleanse' are thrown about by ducks quacking. They generally do more harm than good because the people promoting it don't know about metabolism or nutrition.

When illness and malady are a dietary concern you need a dietitian - not a naturopath, medical doctor or 'nutritionist' - A dietitian. Otherwise you just have ducks quacking... and for some weird reason, a lot of chiropractors become diet gurus (wad up wit dat?).

No matter what the case is: illness, allergy, sensitivity or just preference, you need nutrients like anyone else. For people who can eat just about anything, no problem, just eat lots of different stuff and you're pretty much there, but people who need specialised diets for whatever reason - dietitian.

I understand NOW that I should have posted this in the Ayurveda section instead. Maybe I shall ask a moderator to move it, before my simple recipe deeply offends anybody else.

Oh well, we live and learn from the mistake of posting something in the wrong place...I may even reactivate my "MySpace" thread and put this kind of stuff there instead, so only those who are meant to see it will do so.
