If you all are talking about the last saying/Peter.. you simply must refer back to saying 22 as well

Jesus said to them, "When you make the two into one, and when you make the inner like the outer and the outer like the inner, and the upper like the lower, and when you make male and female into a single one, so that the male will not be male nor the female be female, when you make eyes in place of an eye, a hand in place of a hand, a foot in place of a foot, an image in place of an image, then you will enter [the kingdom].

This makes it a whole lot more complicated to say Jesus thought male=spiritual, if the male also has to become female, surely?

The idea that male=spiritual was extremely prevalant in the ancient times and crept into Gnostic circles for sure. So it's a tricky thing

Although I do think there might be something in the 'male' believer uniting with the 'female' Spirit, hence believers becoming 'grooms' as a possibility. The Valentinians had it the other way round, they would think of themselves as females, uniting to their male angelic counterparts... to the derision of some church fathers
A whole lot simpler to not favour one over the other if you ask me, or at least leave it up to the individual which they prefer to be!

In our search for truth it does seem necessary that the male and female within ourselves becomes balanced, and both sides equally important. This is a picture of that idea from Hindu thought:

Both male and female, not one or the other. Yin and Yang have the same sense, Yin and Yang, both balanced and working together.

If 'male' was then to mean spiritual later, it seems to suggest the gnostic tendency to favour spiritual over the body, where spirit and body would be more balanced IMO. Male and female, heaven and earth, body and soul, make the outer like the inner, and the upper like the lower, never one in preference to the other. I propose that sayings 22 and the last saying are mutually exclusive, and from two different mindsets.

As to saying 22, that's much better on the male/female opposite pairs logic, but what does it mean to make eyes (plural) in place of an eye? It's odd.
