i suppose 'channeling' functions here because i send their host an email and they answer the email when they possess their host.

From what I understand, there is a trial period, and then it is impossible to change back. The original occupant of the body goes to the "other side", just as if he or she had died. I have no personal experience of this, and the information I'm giving you comes from Ruth Montgomery's books.
