I remember my one prayer being fulfilled. In that prayer i did havan to a particular devta (god), i was a kid then and did havan in my own way.

A person has shared about prayers accompanied with austerities (celibacy and fasting) being fulfilled: [details here].

As far as asking for things in prayer and then God giving them. God will do the appropriate thing. We all have karma which has been created and which we need to travel through. God may well decide we need to endure what we are going through and the best thing for us is not to get what we are asking for. We can only pray and ask, but ask with love and without attachment. Even if it appears otherwise, if we ask, we get what we need, not necessarily what we ask for. If we ask with anger or like a spoiled child who deosnt get what they want, then Be aware, god may give us what we ask for, and not what we need....

Yes!

Mostly, it's our own desire which gets in the way of not being able to appreciate what God has already given and to be grateful for that.

Also, the answer to a prayer may not be what we asked for. It may seem the opposite or to our detriment, but God doesn't give us anything...even a bad thing, without there being a reason why and we have to look beyond our own needs to find it out.

He may test us by making it harder for us to worship Him...he may take away things we like that are not in our best spiritual interests to have...etc

I pretty much understand now that God knows what's in my heart, so I don't really pray anymore - or if I do, I just go through the motions of doing a puja.

Most of my prayers just end up like this:

Me: "I give my heart out of love for You"
God: "...But I already have that! can't you give me something else?"
Me: "I give You my Soul then".
God: "Since when is 'your' Soul 'yours' to give?"
Me: "Why must you make this so difficult for me?"
God: "You're the one making it difficult".
Me: "Gyah!...do you want me to pray to You or not?"
God: "Who is doing the 'praying'?"
Me: "Okay, I drop my ego then...have that"
God: "Nice try, but still not good enough"
Me: "AUM NAMAH SHIVAYA"
God: "Better...keep working on it".
