few questions about higher self

My answer to this is simple.
We do good and let go of bad.
Thus the reason we connects with our higher self is because we let go of our lowerself.
This is a mathematical question to me.

Now I could be wrong but I've learned things and picked up on some info about higher self. I can try and answer those questions based on the stuff that I once picked up:

1. The higher self is another part of you, one that is elemental; astral travels and goes dreaming. It lives in a different dimension but still part of you. It dwells in you but to the higher self it's a house.
2. Both.
3. I understand there are different layers of you, a soul, spirit, higher self and others.
4. All of you.

I love sincere inquiries!
This is how I experience it, which is similar to what you've already been told by others.

1: The Higher Self is the aspect of us which is eternal, the person we think of now is a character specifically designed for this dimension (3rd) Think of playing a computer game where you make a character, design it's looks and cloths and then go into the virtual world it was designed for and have a series of adventures. Your Higher Self would be the person at the keyboard.
Higher Self lives within a few feet of us most times, it's not relegated to the physical body though or this dimension and often when we're doing boring things like computer surfing and sleeping it goes and does more interesting things.

2: Your Higher Self retains the experiences you've had in this life, memories of it and the 'flavor of it'. It's actually accessible to your next incarnation should it achieve the level of consciousness needed to access prior lifetimes, just as your prior lifetimes are accessible to you now should you reach the level of consciousness to access them. So no worries the 'you' you think you are is added to the Higher Self and is not lost.

3: We are Body, Mind and Spirit - a Trinity. You can swap words and use personality for mind, or Egoaic structure for mind or Soul or Spirit for Higher Self, it doesn't really matter.
Three aspects by whatever name you choose. Two of them you already know - Mind and Body. :)

4: At death of body, your 'personality will merge into your spirit aspect, you'll still retain everything, but totally LIKE the enhanced version of you now because it can do a lot more than you can do now in a limited body ( think computer game character - it's very limited).

(There is likely another aspect which is often called Over Soul, imagine it as a master gamer with multiple computers and IP addresses running multiple Higher Selves each which have a 'character' in a world in the game. Weeeeeee!)

i live in a house in a city in a state in a country in a hemasphere in a planet in a universe. that is kind of what a higher self is. the universe. i, in my house does not disappear. i am a part of it all.
