ego yeah roughly, basically the gist is that whenever we do something that we have decided to call 'good' we are likely to invite feelings of pridefulness, or cleverness, or generally something that paints us in a very good light that is at the same time unrealistic in any objective sense, is really a vanity. All those things blind us to the reality of our situation, and perpetuate the problem we find ourselves in.

So one of the tricks you learn is that sometimes the best thing you can do along the way is avoid whatever you think is 'good' like the plague.

Yes we can't do right without doing wrong
I'm still thinking it's about the ' ego ' and expectations of what life should be instead of accepting what you can't change... I can't speak for all but I think people pray when they want something different from what life gives you.

well the ego seems to be what invites a lot of those things I mentioned... but yeah prayer is especially effective the more you want to see change. From what I can tell the physical form of it invites change, if you are willing enough that it should happen...
