That was an old superstition years ago.
Body had to be left for three days before burial.

I know after hubby passed,I did feel he was more around and he made it known to me that he was there.
But as far I know the 'three days' was to allow the spirt body to depart.
So much for what I know.

a famous british medium gordon higginson (arguably the finest medium of the 20th century - you can google him) was told in a demonstration of mediumship that his mother was coming through
gordon had seen her that morning; she passed into spirit (died) after he had left

i don't believe anything sylvia brown says

I also left my body within moments, before my body was even dead. They brought me back, but I sure as HECK wasn't in it until they did. Nope.. 3 days is a myth.

The 3 days is from religion... Christianity. "3 days and Jesus rose again"

If I understand correctly, there is a Jewish belief that the soul stays near the body until it sees that the color of the face (of the body) has faded, then it leaves forever.

That was to make sure the person was really dead and not in a coma.

And in the days of sailors, after sewing the body up in sailcloth, they would run the needle through the dead mans's nose, as one last precaution to make sure the man was really dead before throwing the body overboard.

An uncle of mine had a dread of being buried alive.

He stipulated three separate doctors had to examine him to make sure he was dead!

i'm not sure that i agree with this and was wondering if anyone else did agree with it or could shed some light on this subject...
cheers morgana :)

It takes three days for the etheric body to leave the physical
body. The etheric body is the body of energy betwixt the astral and
phsyical bodies. That is why with one-day burials a vaporish web or
mass of energy is seen leaving the gravesite three days later; hence,
the ghost stories. It's energy disintegrates and merges into the universe
becoming pure energy. The soul or spirit however leaves its body when the
silver-blue cord is broken and death sets in.
