Thanks for sharing the article. I had to make an eye appointment for this afternoon because in the last couple of days I noticed a vision problem which came on quickly. I brought in my glasses today and it didn't help at all. I covered one eye and noticed a condition in my left eye that has me concerned. Anyway, I'm pretty upset and hoping the exam will prove it to be nothing.

Eye strain is a growing problem. Diet is part of it, but the majority of it is down to lifestyle - computers, mobile phones, television etc.

Have you blurred vision? Are your eyes uneasy in bright light?

Try adding some blueberries, bilberries or blackberries to your diet. Consider an eye health supplement. Most of them follow more or less the same formula. They're centred around lutein and zeaxanthin.

Give the glasses a chance. I'm sure they'll be beneficial once things settle.

'I read your article about cataracts and thought I'd tell you about my wife who was told that she had cataracts in both eyes by Vision Express.
She was then advised that taking blueberries was good for the eyes.
She started taking blueberries and pure blueberry juice daily and after a year returned to Vision Express and was told she no longer had cataracts'

In WW2, RAF bomber crews reported improved night vision as a result of eating bilberry jam. (Bilberries being the European cousin of the blueberry)

Hi, to be quite honest, they are confused as to what was going on. I had noticed that for the past few days my eyesight rapidly deteriorated. I was getting annoyed about it, brought in a pair of reading glasses and when that didn't help, I put my hand over my left eye, right eye, fine...put my hand over my right eye and I had a gray spot with a yellow aura around it. I could not see anything directly ahead. Needless to say I was pretty upset.

Made an appointment where the eye doctor said the left eye vision had deteriorated since he saw me last, and upon inspection, saw that I had fluid in my eye...indicative of Central Serous Retinopathy, which typically goes away in 3 to 6 months...usually seen in men ages 30 to 50 lol...and caused a lot by stress (which I'm under a lot of)...but to rule out other things such as macular degeneration he sent me to a specialist which I went to this morning and oddly enough, my vision seemed back to normal (oh and when I looked only out of my left out, what I could see from peripheral vision, everything was in a downward slant to the right)... well, she tests me and I'm fine other than my vision had deteriorated in that eye...but the swelling and fluid is gone...and that stumped her and her and my eye doctor conferred. She wanted to give me an eye scan, but as I no longer have insurance, she said she wouldn't as it costs too much...but then she came back and stared at me a bit and said I'm giving you a scan at no charge. I thought that was pretty nice. Anyway, the fluid just left. So that's pretty neat. I hope it doesn't come back.

Thanks for the recommendations. :-)

Since we changed diet I've been watching it return... not as quickly as I'd hoped for, but it's clearing up is a most welcomed change! I'll step on the blueberries and see how that goes!

I was reading this article and for the sake of holism was seeing how these two below are deeply tie together... weight is a sign that something is desperately off with our diet, which would then be reflected elsewhere as well! A cleansing of diet in order to address overweight or eyesight will also have positive effects on everything else! The biggest change in my own mindset over the last two years is in recognizing the importance of this deep synchronicity . A problem in one area is reflective of a general unbalance over our entire bodily structure. A "symptom" is simply the place where this disruption is first observed... if there are a number of symptoms then the situation is likely advanced.

The things that "effectively" help to fix one problem will ripple throughout our system and address similar concerns... so the better we get at addressing our nutritional exposure the smoother our experience will be...

I'm off now to get me some blueberries...thanks! :^)

1 Watch your weight
According to Barbara McLaughlan, campaigns manager eye health and social care at the Royal National Institute for the Blind, obesity is increasingly being discussed as a risk factor for all four major causes of sight loss: glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy and cataracts. Someone with a BMI of more than 35 is up to 80 times more likely to develop diabetes than someone with a BMI of less than 22, she says. The risk of developing cataracts can also be doubled due to being overweight.
2 Look beyond carrots
We’re all familiar with the old wives’ tale that carrots can help us see in the dark, but according to a Health Sight Survey commissioned by Transitions Optical, 43 per cent of us are unaware that bad nutrition can cause damage to the eyes, including cataracts and AMD. Antioxidants are the key players for optimum eye health, but it’s lutein and zeaxanthin that are particularly beneficial. Often found together in dark coloured fruits and vegetables such as spinach and prunes, they act as nature’s sunglasses, helping to filter out damaging forms of light and protecting the macula (the central part of the retina).
