Reiki Teachers/Masters

Hey All! I've been developing an interest in Reiki and I would like to become attuned. But how would I know if a teacher or a master is truly good at what they do or if it is a sham? Any tips?

Oh! What is the usual price range to learn? I saw a site somewhere that said it was about $270 just for the first level...

Shop around!!! I got my level I attunement for $75. Diane Stein offers Level I, II, III attunement weekend in Tampa Florida (where she lives) for $500 (not including lodging and meals of course). Also, you can google for free reiki distance attunements online.

To know about a teacher (called a "Reiki Master") it is good to first ask around and inquire with others about the teaching style of a particular master. This would include the topics they cover, the energy exchange (fee for their time), how long they have been doing Reiki, if certificates are included with the attunement, etc. If that is not possible you might get a sense of whom to go to from your own innate abilities clairsentiently.

Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is basically a modality of spiritual energy that comes from God. We do not use our own energy in Reiki but rather act as a 'channel' for the God-given energy.I am a Reiki Master, The Usui System, Usui Shiki Ryoho. Dr. Mikao Usui, was a Christian scholar from Japan who rediscovered Reiki and actively worked from the mid 1800's to the late 1800's.

As far as "fees' are concerned, each master teaches and receives in their own way. The so-called 'fee', termed an "energy exchange", is for their time and it can vary from master to master. Let's discuss a little bit of history here. One of Dr. Usui's original masters, it is believed had a $150.00 energy exchange for Level 1, $500.00 energy exchange for Level 2, and $10,000.00 energy exchange for Master level attunement. In Usui Shiki Ryoho (The Usui System of Natural (Spiritual) Healing) there are three levels. That, of course, was the more traditional form of Reiki energy exchange then, but today the energy exchange is much lower. So, remember that the original System is Usui Shiki Ryoho (Ou (as in you)-soo-e Shee-kee Roy-oho).
