Mental/physical pain while trying to AP

Odd thing happened last night, can someone help me ?

I did a WBTB so I woke up at 4:30am, went to the bathroom and returned to bed to induce an AP (layed down on my back which is NOT my sleeping position and therefore is not very comfy for me).
I felt my body become strange but the bad thing that occured is that at some point IT HURT to remain in that position which is not natural for me.

As if there was a fight between my mind who wanted to sleep so bad and my body which couldnt rest in that non natural sleeping position.

So it REALLY became painful and since it became unbearable I turned over to my natural sleeping position and ofc fell asleep

Question : is that "fight" between my mind and my body something that on the contrary I should maintain in order to AP ?

Because obviously remaning on my back prevents my mind from falling asleep so it could be something good, but on the other hand physically it really hurt so I dont know if this is a good thing for my body.

Any help is welcomed, thanks

Not sure how on earth you would be able to relax in a position that causes physical pain, lol. Big part of successful AP is relaxing, just saying :)

I don't know, I used to have to be on my back to project but over time have learned to do it from really any position. It's still easier on my back, I find on my sides I get "stuck" and have to do the ol "roll out" method but it's really only a minor inconvenience.

In answer to your inquiry though, I would say it's pretty obvious not to AP in a position that causes actually physical pain ;) Not trying to be smart or anything, it's just pain will prevent you from relaxing.

Well in 90% of the cases people report OBE from their back so I had to keep trying in that position which as I told is not my sleeping position.

Obviously I can't keep with it and the pain felt last night is very clear about that.

When I tried in my sleeping position (on my stomach) for some reasons I always start good with focus and such and then, without seeing it coming, I black out and fall asleep.

Do you think I have to none the less keep on trying to AP on my stomach and train (hard) myself not to lose counscious ? Because being on my stomach is really what makes me go str8 to dreamland so it's pretty convenient to AP if I learn how to keep some awareness and not fall asleep.

Thanks

Not sure about Stomach sleeping. That is a position that is naturally uncomfortable for me...

Using the WBTB technique I find upright (seated) to work good.
Example...

Got to bed at midnight, set alarm for 2am
Wake up at 2am and move to couch or chair in living room (seated)
Put the TV on (something not very engaging but enough to wake your mind up, like an infomercial or something)
Zone out and do whatever you do to achieve AP

Change your mattress?
....I don't know....
I relax most easily on my back, but I would say you should try to AP from a totally relaxed position -as suits you. It might not be that way for everyone else, but the main thing is that you are relaxed, and at the same time mentally awake.
I don't think it really matters what position you start out from.

However I do find that waking from sleep after about 4 hours, then getting up (and possibly even drinking coffee?) -then going back to lie down again -often achieves body-asleep-mind-awake conditions which you are aiming for.

Personally I find external noise (like tv or music etc) distracting....but that's just me, and everyone has their own method.

Managing to consciously get out of body.....the WOW! moment...and then against your will, falling asleep again.....that has happened to me many times. I think it's likely to happen when you are very tired, and do need deep sleep.
