If soul is not in the body, what is, and where is soul?

I realize I'm speaking from ego here, but there's definitely a consciousness here.... what is astral projection then if we are not moving our soul somewhere else? Is our consciousness not connected to our soul? In my opinion they are connected in some way

STF, we have many subtle or invisible bodies that we use when we project. We are not using the Soul to project. There are different levels or degrees of consciousness and when we astral project we are normally using the astral or etheric consciousness of those particular subtle bodies. The Soul is a vast consciousness that most people aren't aware of - it's more accurate to say that our body is within the soul, rather than the other way round.
The original poster obviously had an 'Etheric Projection' close to this plane - not an astral projection, because the physical details proved to be accurate. In all the other subtle domains the physical is reproduced with a change, the change growing freer and more elastic as one gets farther away.

It is possible ( but difficult and dangerous ) to place your soul into your astral body and I don't recommend trying until you really know what you are doing.

However once you achieve it the experience is a full physical experience of the astral plane and the abilities you can gain are unbelievably powerful.

Thanks I think this is the best approach to explain what the soul is

There are many vehicles (bodies) that we can use to interact with the reality.
