I don't know, to be honest. Probably all these things, and more we don't understand. I do sense it is an actual objective location. Though the laws that operate there are not like the laws of physics. The substance of this "location" seems more fluid and malleable and can be changed or manipulated or affected by psychic and emotional energies beings who go there have. It seems like the inner parts of us -which don't appear to have a great deal of effect on our physical plane, become "outer" parts there. We become inside-out.
For instance, we can see a car parked on a street on the physical plane and however we feel inside isn't going to make one iota of obvious difference to that car. Well on the astral, it can and often does.
We can hide our innermost feelings in the Earth world. But on the Astral, we can't. What we think, and what we feel is blatantly obvious. It shapes our surroundings and experiences.
Anyway there are a thousand things to say about what the Astral might be. I'm not really sure. I've made some stumbling forays into that "world" like a toddler learning about how the physical plane works. I feel like a beginner. I've been "out there" a few times, but still don't really know, from personal experience, how it works and what it is. Guess I'm a slow learner!
