How to Clean Ammonite?
Hello,
How do I clean my ammonite fossil?
It is made to be worn as a pendant, but I over wore it. I just felt its pull to me again a couple of days ago, and took it off last night, because I don't want it to turn into nothing.
I never cleaned it last year after wearing it, and I believe due to my natural oils, and rubbing against my skin, it has eroded it a bit. It had a different color to it before, but I cannot exactly remember, now it gleams - oily like. That iridescent sheen, but like it has taken over - I think they do a bit, but not this much.
I am not certain what to use, that won't hurt it.
Thank You

You might be looking at the Ammonite under different lighting conditions.
If you have a fairly nice Ammonite, what you might be seeing is the Opal aspect of the Ammonite.
If you think the problem is oil, soap and water should remove the oil.

When in doubt, put it on hematite or selenite.
