In the way of country music I think 'A Boy Named Sue' by Johnny Cash is a good example of the pre rap music. It was recorded live at San Quentin prison in '69. It's actually a poem by Shel Silverstien.

From humble beginings.

The move from disco made an official rap genre in the late seventies, and it became popular in the early eighties (much to my disgust) but I recall one particular artist who I dare say was the fore father of rap music. The Grand Master Flash. Released in '81 I think.

Surely you know that one.

Gem,
Those are great! The 1st one made me laugh & feel like square dancing or something!
The 2nd one you posted sounded familiar... but it's probably been remade.

We were singing karaoke tonight... (be glad you couldn't hear ) & I kept coming across songs that I thought I knew...until I realized they were Elvis Presly songs.
I wonder if much of music is just remakes, or copied in some way from previous songs.

Hey people, cool thread.

Im personally very into the hip-hop scene, I would like to introduce an up n coming producer from Norway, he is sick on the remixes and beats.

This one is a very fitting track to this thread, Bekay rapping on behalf of hiphop. A channelling of Hiphop one can say.

Hey Vega, thanks for sharing. I honestly haven't heard much UK or European hip hop, always good to hear new stuff. Love Vadim, thinks he's UK..

Anyways, those tracks remind me alot of this group from Pacific Northwest, I believe Seattle area, group called Blue Scholars' , very similar chill/melodic vibe.

Check em out:

Thomax is the DJ/ Producer? Emcee? Both?

I had never heard of him so I guess he didn't release and albums and only played the DJ scene, so thanks for that info it's very interesting. I guess there aren't any Kool Herc songs.

I reckon hewas actually the brain child as you say.

You're very welcome Gem. Little youtube blurb on him.

Grandmaster Flash one of the first to popularize it for sure. Pioneer in his own right.

Thanks for the prize!
But I have to be honest... I looked up the lyrics... (ducking to hide)
... There's no way I could've gotten all of those lyrics just by listening even several times -he's too fast!

But I liked that prize song, Deusdrum - good beat, & cool moves/cinematography.
