Any experience with spirulina or seaweed?

I just started supplementing with spirulina 450mg/day. So far I have noticed whiter nail tips, stronger nails, better moods, really broken out skin, racing mind, and bad digestion. So lots of good and bad results.

A few years ago I ate some kelp, and it immediately broke my skin out.

So I'm wondering if I should keep taking it, hoping the bad side effects are temporary, or if I should stop because my body is for the most part not liking it. As a disclaimer, I had been having poor digestion and racing thoughts for the past month, no idea why; they had been getting better until I took spirulina.

Has anyone had any similar experiences, especially with the broken out skin?

I do take Spirulina supplements every day and I sleep better at night time plus it helps me with toning my body. I haven't seen a difference with my nails at all.

Hmm thanks for the feedback.

@Heaven how has it helped tone your body? More energy for workouts?

Hi Elli..

I have been taking spirulina on and off for a few months now.
To tell you the truth, aside from my skin breaking out, I haven't noticed any differences... which is why I now take it on occasion.
When I have a few days stretch in between, my skin goes back to normal.
I guess there is a sensitivity issue with one or more of the ingredients.

It has more protein than tofu. It doesn't give me energy at all, it actually makes me sleepy that's why I take it at night time.

Two days ago I started taking it again. My skin didn't break out life before, and my nails don't look white. I have no idea why those two things changed, but it still gives me pretty good energy so I'm going to continue taking it.

I'll let you guys know if it starts helping my body at all. I'm really hoping it can help with digestion and skin.

Seaweed is supposed to be rich in calcium and other nutrients. We used to buy it in the grocery stores when we lived in Hawaii. It's really expensive, at least for the green and red. They mixed it up w/ a little oil and some sort of spices and set it out in the deli section.
