Realizing oneself is changing oneself ... if before you didn't realize and after you did ... obviously something in you changed.

Why did Hui Neng call it the realization of one's own mind essence? What is mind? What is mind essence?

Zen and Chan are beautiful paths.
I was little bit in "one day you have to let go of all the paths and concepts and theories" mood when I wrote my comment.
And now I searched for the term "mind essence" in this text which you pointed at ... and got zero matches :(
