The ice has done its job! She had only 1 tiny blister when she woke up. She automatically asked for the ice. I guess kids instinctively know what works for them. I applied some chopped up ginger on her with a bandaid and she was running around the house saying it burns. I left it on for 5 minutes. Her blister site looks great, almost fully healed. Amy, the ice does work beyond the initial tingly stage.

I can't believe my eyes. She is totally cured. Either little kids heal quickly or ice and ginger is magic. Yay! And thanks again!

Amy, I need to thank you again! I had an initial breakout 2 days ago due to lack of sleep in changes in the weather. I iced my tingling face even though there were already 2 tiny blisters. The ice worked like magic. The area is healed and I didn't even need to take any meds!

Wow - am pleased for you Berry but a little confused....in your post #4 you said that the ice made it worse after the blister stage. (I have never tried it beyond the tingly stage since I always catch it in time). This suggests that a tiny blister is still in the curable stage - or was it the ginger?

I don't think the ice made it worse for her. She had a bad infection so she grew more blisters after the initial ice treatment. Or she did not keep the ice on long enough to kill the viruses. More ice kept the swelling down and the ginger may have helped as well. You are correct that the earlier one can catch it before the blistering, the better the cure. By the time mine itches, one or two blisters have usually creeps up.
I didn't use ginger this time, just pure ice. I was tempted to use the Valycyclovir but held back. Your ice treatment rocks!

I imagine such mouth sores are not only painful, but embarrassing as well.

It's not always painful, but can be. And it sure is embarrassing especially if the blisters reach the size of a quarter or larger. And I just want to hide when kids ask what's that on your face?

I guess that can effect someone's social life. No matter how much someone
says "Their only cold sores", people may think otherwise. I bet that's kind of rough.
The size of quarters ? When's the last time you had those sores checked by a doctor ?
