The technical difference between LD and the OBE is in LD not only do you know you are dreaming but you can control the direction and outcome of the dream.

An OBE in the realms where the collective consciousness holds the power of manifestation, where it is highly improbable that you can alter the experience, is, by definition, not an LD.

I think Astral Projections are more intense than Lucid Dreaming. Although I prefer LD more.

They are quite different I believe.

In astral travel you are essentially dying by leaving your body except the chord that connects your higher body to your physical body remains intact.

When you dream a portion of your higher consciousness does leave the body or goes "somewhere else" but it is the mental and/or casual body.

I hope the last aren't too personal. Just super curious.
After having a lucid dream "hijacked" by a friend (he began speaking on his own, admitting things that were later confirmed indirectly, and overall had more freewill than I had imagined) several people said that it seemed as if I may have been astral traveling and not LD'ing. It got me thinking a bit about the difference between the two.

A lucid dream is simply a dream in which you are aware of the fact that you are in a dream. Back in college I used one to keep studying for a big Chem test. While awake I hit a wall and was stuck. In the lucid dream I manged to figure out what I was doing wrong and finished studying. Astral travel or out of body travel is nothing like dreaming nor is it similar to a lucid dream. You are fully awake but you aren't in your physical body so you have complete freedom to go wherever you like. OOB is reality. Lucid dreams are... well... dreams and so by definition not even remotely real.

as some had stated Lucid dreaming and astral projection are conscious experience in the astral plane. Lucid is knowing that you're in the dream. Astral projection is being conscious of leaving the body when sleeping. I've had both before and either one is good. I'll be happy so long as I'm awake in the dream

here's an article that explain what they mean.

hope u'll find it usefull. :-)

Lucid dreaming is being aware of the fact that you're dreaming and then taking control of the dream. Astral projection is leaving your body through intent. With Astral projection the possibilities are endless. You can visit the Akashic records, go to the centre of the earth, visit other planets (the Martian sunset is a sight to behold) or...(you fill in the blanks).
