Eyes opening but wasn't your physical eyes

Blessings all,

I recently had an experience where I was asleep in bed in the early light of the morning and my partner was returning from the lavatory and I was aware of it - eyes shut and coming out of my REM sleep, I went to sit up and look at him - but instead of my physical eyes opening - something opened and all I could see was cells / fleshy compartments and all enclosed. It was a little hazy, like I had a light film over my vision however I could see what I was looking at clearly. I looked around for about 10 - 15 secs but because it wasn't 'normal' my brain started to fret and then I felt my 'physical' eyes start to blink and then I came to, watching my partner jump into bed. I was in the upright position and knew that I was quite conscious throughout the whole experience.

Just wondering if anyone else has had this experience - and is this lucid dreaming - or what is it?

Thanking you all.

Many Blessings

I have had a similar experience. It felt as if my eyes opened, I could see my room, but then I try to sit up and find that I'm stuck to my bed.

It may be the tail-end of hypnapompic hallucinations (as they are technically called - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypnopompic). The 'inner' eyes tend to open during both hypnagogic and hynopompic states, although this may simply be awareness of the onset of a dream (hypnagogic) and the ending of a dream (hypnopompic). I've had many occasions of being awake, but still watching the last few seconds of a dream. It's a strange sensation, isn't it?

Hope this helps.
