If you do some research Honza you will find Gnosticism in the bible, you do have to ' Step out of the box ' though.

Yes but Gnosticism and Christianity are two different things. They are two separate strands of spirituality.

Gnostics do not believe that Jesus is the Messiah and Christians do not believe that one can personally reach God without the Messiah.

He did not need to be, He was The Christ.

Do a little studying on the teachings of the 'Early Church Fathers' especially St Augustine regarding ' Christianity before Christ ' very interesting

What you are saying is that there was Gnosticism before Jesus. But they were not Christians because Christianity started with Jesus.

Gnosticism probably goes back way before Jesus. It is Human nature to try and join the divine. Some Christians are obviously bordering on Gnosticism too.

But the simple truth is that the religion of Christianity started with Jesus and almost 100% of it believes Jesus is the Messiah.

Gnosticism is a separate subject.

Your post didn't change the course of the Christianity discussion, sorry, just wanted to give you back-up.

I'm afraid I have to agree with RabbiO here....

Since when did Gnostic Christianity, and so on belong in the Judaism forum?

Though it is an interesting discussion, and lively, maybe it's best to keep this sub-forum on track? Please.

You raise an excellent point about St. Augustine regarding "Christianity before Christ". Quoting St. Augustine:

"That which is called the Christian religion existed among the ancients, and never did not exist from the beginning of the human race until Christ came in the flesh, at which time, the true religion, which already existed, began to be called Christianity."
