insomnia

I was born with activated higher chakras, so I tend to think a lot. Sometimes I cannot shut down my mental activities, so I can't sleep well.

Any suggestions on how to sleep better, deeper, and longer?

Even if you have a constantly busy mind it will have no chance if your body is tired out. Tired out bodies tend to fall asleep. Lots of physical exercise/walks/work -will usually end up with you being well tired at bedtime.

I don't know when you eat your main meal but maybe if you eat a good dinner about 4-5 hours before going to sleep, you won't be too hungry, too full, or anything else to stop you sleeping.

If you have trouble with a too-active mind, make a time to wind down before bed. Use only a dim light or candle light in the last hour, and don't do anything stimulating. Even checking email/Facebook/making phone calls, texts etc in that last hour. Maybe listen to gentle music or some night time story on the radio if that's your thing(?) Or read a book. Let go of the day. Let the day go away, and enter your own 'den space' in your mind!

Lavender oil aids relaxation and rest. A warm bath with lavender oil added....

Absolutely no caffeine with a few hours before bed, you have no idea how much of a difference it makes. Then, try to keep away from phone and TV before sleep, don't have a heavy dinner, and maybe try to listen to some ambiental or trance music. Also breathe and focus on keeping your mind somewhere positive and relaxing - I like to imagine I am surrounded by a cotton cloud.

Lavender is great. Also chamomile tea,or if your insomnia is persistent, you could try passiflora(passion flower) infusion-1 tablespoon of dried herb for a cup of boiling water.

wanchain - I'm not advocating any type of treatment, just offering up what works for me. I do take a sleep aid (can't sleep without it) and I also pace out 15 mg of melatonin tablets throughout the evening (three 5 mg tablets) when I wake up throughout the night. Obviously I have sleep insomnia too. Avoiding napping as well as anything with caffeine in it later in the day helps as well. Best of luck to you in finding a formula, natural or otherwise, that works best for you.

wanchain - Just realized this thread is in the "natural remedies" and so my technique doesn't qualify, however, I do sleep with a wave machine that makes the sound of crashing waves on a beech. I keep that on all night long. So maybe a soothing sound in the background can help.
