To me it's realizing who we are, the purpose of existence, it's like waking up. But it's just one of the first steps because it opens the doors that start a new looong journey. :)

Wikipedia defines enlightenment as "full comprehension of a situation". Which is an accurate definition.

ok so someone born 1000s years ago had alot lower chance of becoming enlightened.
Because he simply doesnt have tools to get the full comprehension of a situation or to realize who he is.

No, becoming enlightened is not up to chance. Being enlightened comes from the will to learn and understand, it's choice not chance. Nobody will ever know everything, but the most enlightened people strive towards that anyways.

Everyone has the tools to fully comprehend a situation, everyone is capable of learning and people had the same ability a thousand years ago.

I think that it's not completely true. So long ago people had a bit different relationship with the world than for example people who live fast in the big cities, so their wisdom or so called enlightenment could come not from the books, Internet, etc., but from their personal experiences, commune with nature, or a guidance from someone who had good connection with inner self or the universe. In the end, it all has to be found in self, no external guidance can replace it (in my opinion) and this inner voice and inner guidance have been there always regardless of times. The thing that may be different though is that nowadays people can have more liberal thinking without any risk of being burned at the stake. ;)
