Lightbulb Expectations

Hi! I am reading a book called, "Write it Down, Make it Happen". I read this book years ago but decided to re-read it again (on kindle, not paperback).

In the book, it talks about the part of the brain called reticular activating system. It's talk about how the part of the brain works a certain way. It kind of makes me think of law of attraction almost.

My question is, is it still okay to expect great things or you better off not expecting anything (good or bad) so that way you don't get hurt?

What should we be thinking? Is that how affirmations work, after time you eventually believe the thoughts? I am slowly kind of realizing some of my actions(habits)/ thoughts aren't doing me any good... I need to learn from them and realize what isn't working for me. I love coffee but I shouldn't drink it often as my body just doesn't like it, but I love the taste. I should obviously listen to my body right?

Affirmations are meant to work by changing what you believe, not at a conscious level, but at the subconscious level. The more you tell yourself something the more it get ingrained into your thoughts and becomes a belief.
These beliefs are what shapes the world around you and your perception of it.

You should listen to your body, if you have a bad reaction to coffee then you should try to find something that doesn't have that effect, but still tastes appealing. Maybe try hot water with a few drops of 'coffee flavouring' or similar.

As for expectations, that is the hardest part of the Law of Attraction (and similar methods), we all love to think about how we want things to be, how life will feel when we have that special item/house/amount of money, but it is difficult to detach from it, especially when faced with the current reality of not having it.

LOA (etc) all teach that you need to detach from the outcome, basically continue with your life and be happy with everything right now, don't be yearning for something, accept that it is on its way and don't let it occupy any of your thoughts.
Realise that you are happy and complete now.

It is kind of an oxymoron, in that you know you want the car/house/money, but to get the car/house/money you need to stop needing/wanting the car/house/money.

When you plant a seed...don't you expect it to grow?
When you do a job don't you expect to get paid?

If you don't expect your desire to manifest, it exhibits fear....and doubt.
These will not help anything to happen.
That's just the way the Universe is set up.
Be happy knowing the thing you want is on it's way...prepare a place for it!
Feel the feeling as if it were already there in the physical...because it is
there ready for you in the unseen.

That is what works for me.

Prepare yourself for the coming astral journey of death by daily riding in the balloon of God-perception.
Through delusion you are perceiving yourself as a bundle of flesh and bones, which at best is a nest of troubles.
Meditate unceasingly, that you may quickly behold yourself as the Infinite Essence, free from every form of misery. ~Paramahansa's Guru's Guru
