Guthrio, Guthrio, where art though?
Om is the bow, the arrow is soul,
The Brahman is the arrow’s target,
That one should incessantly hit.

Yes, present moment awareness or love is taught by every religion, and it is the one who practices this who can be said to be truly religious or spiritual, even if he may happen to be an agnostic or atheist.
And not the religious affiliate who talks about them but does not translate them into practice.
It is these religious affiliates who have unfortunately given a wrong name to religion at this time due to the numerous conflicts on the basis of duality, which clearly shows that awareness or love is absent.

Why would ANYONE want to be 'encouraged' to exercise his innate 'freedom' - to be 'humble' instead of 'grandiose' of all things? It strikes me that one's answer to THAT Q will 'reveal' the perversity of one's 'affinity' for subordinating oneself to (a) 'religion' in the first place. My suggestion is: "Get over it!"

Or, as the case may be, under such (doomed, IMO) quest for 'surety', for being one of the 'humble' 'elect', etc., etc, etc.

Oh you American you. I worked in the U.S. for 5 years. I love how bold Americans are. And I dislike how bold they are. It's a crazy love/dislike thing I've got going, same as with my ex: I love that we're no longer together because I really disliked her.
And now davidsun, even I in my self-important arrogance know there is a humility aspect to spirituality. I love both aspects, the grandiose and the... less peacockish. Time and place for everything. And my take on belief paths: they are the unconscious distant-echo callings of our past life and lives. I love getting up at 3-4 am, always have even after I retired. I'm an old monk or priest from another life. But they must have tossed me off the cliff one night because other than the sleep schedule, I don't have any interest in the tenets anymore. And I even have an antipathy towards them, probably as a result of landing on those rocks head first.

People have gone nuts, let's face it. 100 years ago it was not like this. Why are there so many empty, hopeless people who hold nihilistic beliefs devoid of any life spark? Imagine what it would have been like to be vaporized in an atomic blast. Imagine being blown to bits and pounded to dust in a carpet-bombing run. Imagine lying in mud trenches for weeks and months, watching hundreds and thousands of soldiers die. Why are there so many people whose relationship to life and things spiritual, is a kind of haunted and fear-driven roller-coaster ride of suffering, demonic visions, entities, dark energy, and the like? Imagine a Nazi concentration camp.

P.S. I am only 'American' by way of what is euphemistically called ' naturalization'.
I am half 'Indian' and half 'British' by parentage. Go figure!
