Have you ever had to tell someone close to you about unusual beliefs/practices?

I’m wondering how to do this myself, so how have others done it? Especially if the subject was something most people wouldn’t believe.

My current b/f. I just told him. Or rather I didn't hide things when he first came to my flat. There are books that the sheeple would find weird; my second bedroom is a sanctuary/shrine. He enquired. I was waiting for some kind of mockery but he accepted I was entitled to my beliefs. He hasn't tried to persuade me out of them neither have I tried to persuade him to mine. The relationship exists without accord on these things. We're both artistic in our ways.

All is well. No sense trying to pretend we're something we aren't!

It's not a secret, it shines through in most everything I do. And if someone enters my house it's even clearer that I'm busy with the spiritual and energywork. There are crystals everywhere, a Buddha statue, my bookcase reveals it as do the piles of oracle cards, and then there's my paintings.
I talk about it a lot too, in various degrees.
My kids know, my family, and my 2 exes did too.

What would be the purpose to tell. If asked then why not tell.
