ESP - Extrasensory Perception

Zener Cards used for the Rhine Test.

ESP - Extrasensory Perception

ESP is most commonly known as the “Sixth Sense”. This is a source of information gained that be past the first five senses ( sight, smell, touch, hearing, taste.) It can give one information that can go to the Past, Present, or even Future. Some theory is that is takes one to an alternate reality.

The term ESP was used in 1870 by Sir Richard Burton. The term then was used in reference to a person that was in hypnotic state or trance and is able to sense things without using the normal five senses.

We can trace ESP back much farther than the 1800’s some will say its even noted in Biblical writings.
In the 1920’s Dr. Rudolph Tischner described it as “externalization of sensibility”. In the 1930’s the term ESP was finally popularized by J. B. Rhine. He was among the first to start the path of lab study into this phenomena.

The first Systematic study of ESP was conducted in 1882, when the Society for Psychical Research was founded in London. It was from this first journals that other countries started to report findings as well. None of the studies were ever concrete til the “Rhine Experiment”.

The Rhine experiment was conducted by Rhine at Duke University in 1930. It is a set of five cards with (now called ESP ) symbols on them. The symbols place on signal cards in Black Ink. The symbols are in a deck of 25 cards that are randomly shuffled. The subject being tested is ask to tell of the symbol on the card. The likelihood of calling a card correctly is one in five. This makes it easy for there to be a score rating on the number of correct responses. If one scores over 20% might well suggest one is using the Sixth Sense.

I got 4 out of 6 on the Zener test. 233% above chance.

But it is very draining, I felt exhausted afterwards.
