Hi acorn, I don't practice Rastafarianism, but I've been intrigued by it for many, many years. Certain aspects of it, anyway.

Interested, because of my parallel interest in neo-African faiths as they appear in the Caribbean, though I'm more in contact with the French Antilles and Haiti. I understand the basics and know of a few luminaries: Marcus Garvey, for one, and of Haile Selassie who became Jah in his original role as the black leader in Africa (back in the day when Rastafari was in formation).
It seems to be founded on a black interpretation of the Bible and the struggle against colonial oppression and abductions that brought Africans to the Caribbean, the need to return to their roots.

So much expression emerged in the wonderful music of the 60s onwards with toasting and dub reggae.

Jah-Jah go down to Rome an' he t'row one stone, said it hit poor Paul an' the Babylon fall......
