The ego is your personality in this life. A vehicle for experiencing life here. It is a wonderful thing but shows us corners that need to be smoothed here and there.
Love it.
Focus on love also, and anything that shines with a more enduring light, at any times you feel yourself get drawn into habit-patterns the ego has learned which don't resonate with your spirit. That really does work. Don't be put off if the ego 'fights back'. Sometimes it will, just for the sake of habit and the old ways. But soon it will follow your spirit's ways, because it will begin to see great sense in that.

Yes, the ego is a wonderful thing. Don't extinguish it completely. Just park it aside when you don't need it.

Anthony,

I take a perspective on the Ego based on that of Taoist alchemy, which states that once awareness is purified, your ego serves this awareness. As long as we are deluded by false opinions and led around by the nose by our emotions, our actions will be harmful to both ourselves and others. However, once we abandon false thought for perception of reality and recognize our emotions but aren't dominated by them, the ego then serves in its true place as motivating and creative force that brings things into being based on our recognition of that which is.

Best Wishes,
-TaoSandwich
