I was thinking something towards healing or new beginnings, but am open to suggestions

The reason I ask is that if you don't know what you want to work for then you won't have that 'desire', 'need', 'drive' or 'passion' to manifest what it is you want.

By saying certain words that I used in a spell or finding spells on the internet is no guarantee that they will work for you - you have to want something with such desire that you actually manifest it. You have to be able to visualize and 'know' that what you want will manifest.

Another thing to consider is what kind of magic would you like to work? Do you want to do candle magic, knot magic, doll magic, herb magic or sigil magic etc.

If you have it in mind to start a new project then we can create a spell for you but you have to WANT it with such an urgency that you can feel it in your gut and you're going to have to be able to visualize it as being successfully accomplished.

Meditating and being able to reach a change in consciousness is all important in spell work and ritual and this is what you really should be working on.

This isn't really a spell but it will help you to grow in your practice - cast a circle and evoke one of the elements, such as North, and sit and become acquainted with the feeling and sensations you receive, for example, do you feeling grounded and calm, stable, cold; what colour(s) do you get a sense of? Don't forget to thank that element and ask it to return to its beautiful realm before you open the circle. Then another time cast a circle and call a different element. The elements and the elementals can become your allies and help you.

One of the things I do around the Winter Solstice is cleanse my house from top to bottom just before the solstice then right after the solstice I burn white candles dressed with blessing oil in every room of the house. Of if you don't own a house and live with family and just have your own room you can do your room. It gets rid of stale energy and brings in love and light. I go through my house - work from top to bottom doing each room and every nook and cranny and closet in each room. First I go through with salted water (which represents earth and water) then I go through with incense (fire and air) saying "I cleanse this house of ill and bane, negativity and all evil while visualizing all the 'gunk' fleeing out of the open windows. I repeat that as I walk through the house. I do the attic first and the basement last. To bless the house I dress white candles with blessing oil (if you don't have a special blessing blend you can always use Cold Pressed Virgin Olive Oil which you can buy in a grocery store. As you're dressing the white candles with the oil (I start in the middle of the candle and spread the oil to the top then I go back to the middle and spread the oil to the bottom) say something like "Candle of flame, candle of light bless this house (room) with love and light in the name of the Lord and Lady". When you have a patron deity or a deity that you work with often then you can dress the candle in that deity's name. Then place a candle in each room and keep a very watchful eye on them (or it, if you're just cleansing and blessing your room) and let them burn out.

If, as you said, you want to start something new then you could say something like "Candle of flame, candle of fire bless this house (room) with love and light and help me achieve..............(whatever it is you want). Candle of flame, candle of fire work my will by my desire".

The Winter Solstice is the darkest time of the year but it is also filled with the promise of new life and new beginnings.

I will definitely do the candle clearing. I was planning on doing something with candles anyway for the spell and possibly incorporate herbs if I can find what I need. I am going to focus on new beginnings

If you want a certain person from the opposite sex to contact you, would it be good to cast a spell on him, or is that wrong?

There are two ways of looking at this: some people say it is immoral/wrong to take away someone's free will by working a spell to make that person love you.

Some people think it's OK.

You have to make your own mind up on this.

In a case like this I always ask the question: "Would you really be happy having someone say they like/love you because you cast a spell on them and made them feel that way?"
