Sure. The questions is how do you desire to find god? There is this tantric story about two brothers who find god. One through his love for god, the other through his hate. At the moment you are finding yours through fear and it does not feel good; so I understand why you do not desire to believe in it or the lore you associate with it.

But the signs are there because you are concerned. You are concerned with what happens if you leave god behind. So until you find a god that is benevolent you will not be capable of leaving the signs behind.

That is exactly what I am saying. It does not have to be god; it could be life is good or something as simple and equal complex as yourself. Anything that delights you if you want my opinion.

Keep in mind that it is a process of easing yourself out of one thing while softening into another. If being specific does not benefit you go general.

One last question: Say I take your advice find something new and the signs stop how do I know God hasn't simply given up on me?

Because if the God of the bible is the the true God doing your idea will ultimately send me to hell, I'm willing to try your way but I need to know there's no danger so I need my last question answered
