prakriti: help.
Am asking for help translating the word 'prakriti"
In the Gita, Krishna's discourse on the field and the knower of the field he speaks about prakriti and Brahman both being without beginning.
My translation of the Gita defines 'prakriti' as being matter. This does not seem to harmoniously apply to the theme of Krishna's discourse.
Scholars or devoted readers....your insights on the meaning of prakriti are welcome.

From a sanskrit english on line dictionary:
Prakriti:Matter, maya, nature, and the primitive non intellegent principle, and consciousness in it's undiluted aspect.
Given krishna's description of Brahma and the use of prakriti within the description i think the last 2 definitions are more fitting.
