Learning Reiki

After being presented with a list of 500 courses, I have decided to do Reiki.

What do I need to be aware of before going into this?

...and what is Seikhim? I have heard of it but know not what it is. Thanks.

Its a branch of reiki but its all the same thing really. My 2nd reiki master had this degree but energy is energy and people can say whatever they want.

There really nothing you should know before hand as long as you have a basic understanding of what reiki is. :)

I wish I would have known prior to my first attinement that during my two day course, I wouldn't be receiving the attunement until the last night. I just really wanted it that first day! :)

Trust in the experience is the best advice I can give you!

Another thing is that you really don't need more than that one attunement. Its just the intention to raise your consciousness. The rest is just a scam. Try to find a good teacher that does not have a huge ego.

I have a basic understanding of it, like it's the 'laying on of hands' energy transfer type thing used for healing, balancing chakras etc and beyond that, I know nothing.

I was mentally reminded a moment ago about the time I dated a Sukyo Mahikari practitioner back when I was a teenager..

It may be similar to this? What ever happened to Mahikari anyway?

Hi Necro if you want I can attune you to Reiki 1 and guide you through it, if you really want. It is very simple , hands on healing and will give you information you need. I am feeling generous today so I will attune you. Let me know and pm me if interested.

Well attunement is the act of attuning your energy ( or opening your energy to the blessings of Reiki ) I am a reiki master and for you to be attuned I just will only need for you to be open to receiving an attunment. The attunement itself does not take more than few minutes. Then once you are attuned I will guide you what to do.

An attunement is essentially a gentle shift in a person's energy to match the vibration of a different energy. In this sense, if you were to be attuned then a practitioner would send Reiki to you, and when it met your body's energy they would synchronize on a subtle level. It could be likened to adjusting the strings on a guitar to match the specific vibration sound of a note: the strings are gently made taut or loosened until they make the same vibration.
Over time, your energy would gently synchronize on a fuller level, allowing yur body and consciousness to be more "in-tune" or attuned to the energy of Reiki. Going slowly is very helpful to give time for you to adjust instead of feeling off-balance when there's suddenly a huge wave of new energy going on inside.

Attunements aren't entirely necessary, though it seems to serve the purpose of introducing the energy vibration connection. In the analogy of the guitar strings, the attunement would be like an experienced musician playing the proper note for a younger one, and helping them adjust the string to match. Otherwise the younger student may fumble for a while, not knowing the sound of the note they're trying to tune to.
