Cracking at the base of my skull during meditation
So I've been meditating pretty intensively for over a couple of years now, meditating for anything between two and four hours a day (though I've eased off a little of late - it's more like an hour to ninety minutes at the moment), and it's really helped to shift things in terms of dissolving energetic blockages and releasing various emotions.
A development I've noticed in the last few days is that I've started to experience a cracking, grinding sound/sensation at the base of my skull, in exactly the way your bones might crack when they're being manipulated by an osteopath. It doesn't happen during every meditation and it isn't painful, but it's rather unnerving when it does happen and it makes me worry that I'm going to incur an injury. Has anyone else experienced anything like this, or does anyone know what it signifies? I'm also experiencing a lot of energy in my head and heart, could it be related to that? My heart in particular has always been a big issue, it's been very badly damaged and appears to have suffered a lot of trauma - I get the sense that the cracking might be related to that in some way, though I could be wrong.

Sounds to me, like it's Kundalini-related. As the power breaks or pierces through certain physical barriers in the body (with the top of the skull being the toughest one), there is a tearing or cracking sound.
I heard this sound, very loudly, when my Kundalini first rose all the way to the top. After that, I heard something akin to the rushing of water as liquid light flooded my brain.
My guess is that your Kundalini is rising and is now trying to break through to the third eye region. If there is a sensation of heat and light along the spine and in that area, that is the most likely explanation.

Right, yeah, I figured it was kundalini-related in some way - very interesting, thanks for the feedback :) I haven't noticed heat or light along the spine as yet, just a lot of pressure in my chest region; I figure I just need to be patient and allow the energy to move as it will, rather than attempting to force it in anyway (I've heard you can get into a lot of trouble doing that).

Based on that and what you previously posted " My heart in particular has always been a big issue, it's been very badly damaged and appears to have suffered a lot of trauma" it might not be a bad idea to get a physical as a precautionary measure.
I'm not trying to worry you and it's probably nothing but it's a good idea to be certain.

My sense of it is that it isn't health-related, my physical health's been absolutely fine. But I get where you're coming from (better to be safe than sorry and all that), I'll keep it in mind.
