So, on Quora I heard people reincarnate 108 times with the end result being Ascension or Hell. Does that characterize it or is there more to it? And what is their Hell like?

Samael Aun Weor refers to a cycle of 108 lives. I've never read him, so I cannot comment further.

Although 108 is occultly a significant #, the cycle of human birth is variable depending on the individual soul, and importantly how the being responds in free-will to the opportunities available in the evolutionary scheme we find ourselves within. Therefore, the number of incarnations will be different for each different individual. There may be a general average, but as an utter and virtually unfathomable abstraction, what practical meaning or value can that have for anyone on the spiritual path, especially given the variable uncertainty for each case?

108 is the number of beads on a Buddhist, Hindu, etc. prayer beads (mala).

Count the number of beads on the string can be an indication of what the owners belief system is.
