What a privilege it is to have an animal in one's life, either as a domesticated pet or as a 'wild' friend.
To observe them, their character traits and mannerisms; to marvel at, once the 'barrier' is down, how readily they give and accept love and friendship; to 'see' the soul of the animal in its eyes ... A profound experience on so many levels.
But one has failed to learn a precious lesson if one fails to recognise that the animal represents a microcosm of the Animal Kingdom as a whole and that the qualities that so enchant you in your animal companion extend to the nameless, the unknown and the unloved as well ...

Yes! They are always around. They have a soul and hear your thoughts, no different than a human soul that has passed.
As an animal medium, I communicate with animals both alive and passed.
They are very loving teachers for us!

i love all of these replies! i've had visits from pets that have passed on, and know that they've also helped my current pets (or newer ones they may not have known in live) to do things that remind me of them even though they have passed. <3

I recently had open heart surgery (June 30) and was in and out of the hospital the following two weeks, and during my recuperation period, I woke up early one morning and said out loud "That was Axel," a black female cat I once owned, but ran away. I had dreampt about her visiting me!

How nice!
[Sorry to hear about your heart surgery, dear Silvergirl. Hope you're okay and all is well now.]

My wife's ashes lay with those of her two German Shepherds. She loved them in life and they were totally devoted to her, so now their spirits guard her spirit and I know that is as it was meant to be, and all is well.

Maybe Axel came to see if you were OK.

Oh, my goodness, that is so beautiful. I'd like that when I pass.
