A fleeting and pleasurable moment...a poem about my wonderings on happiness.. (its easier to say this way)

Winter white
A subtle shade just off truth
Dappled light beneath the wooded canopy
Birdsong drifting, singer unseen
A hillside moment
A drifting thought
The imperceptable smile
Private giggle
Carried skywards with the wind
To me, thats what happiness is.
Yet I hear it screamed loud and brash
Look at me...HAPPY...
A trophy of nouveau riche,
Symbol of status
Locked away
Never to be touched
For fear it may be stolen
From a reality that never was.

I like this question!

Doing what I want to do when I want to do it
Not feeling obligated to do things I don't want to do
Being able to express myself freely without guilt and condemnation on my part or on the part of others
Not having school!
Living in an area where there are only two seasons: Rainy season and dry season. And It's warm year round
Being in an environment that is supportive and conducive of growth
Being able to come and go as I please
Having a furry pet

Nice answer Kap.

I would say happiness is who and what we are, and we experience ourselves as that when we are not busy making up problems to be solved.

Hi Squatch ... on my way out the door my first thoughts were to be happy is to be free from fear ... the kind of fear which inhibits happiness and peace of mind of course lol not the sort that keeps you from being eaten by a lion ...

Well, I love doing what I want, whenever I feel like doing it, and not doing what I don't want! And being me ^_^

But other things cause happiness in me, too, and the feeling is lovely. It's like I can't explain it just makes me want to jump around and scream and laugh (or throw up lol). It's like...this surge of awesome through my body. Hard to explain but I love it and I have it right now

MMMM, happiness to me is knowing who I truly am and living from my true Nature, after all our true Nature is pure Love, pure Bliss, pure Happiness.

Some great replies - thank you.

I find happiness can be fleeting...but then most other emotions are the same.

My mistake is once I think I've found happiness, I'll stick with it until it shifts to some other emotion. Meaning that I won't let it evolve. I'll grab onto it and want to box it.

One of my favourite 'happiness' times is when I've had a few drinks of wine and tuck myself into bed on my own. I then have at least 10 hours of safety, security, warmth, talking to myself, at least an hour or two of insomnia in the early hours, a massive chance of lucid dreaming and the ability to do shadow figures on the wall (i.e. be as silly as I want). I also imagine that I'm sinking into the the earth and exploring the underground on my own. And I play poker in my head.

Oh boy, lying in bed doing all that is happiness for me.
