A medium once told me this technique to repel demons...

She told me; the way to make sure demons aren't around you is simply to imagine being incased in bright light, and thats it, demons gone!

If this is true, then what is the need for crystals etc?

First off I do not go to ever call anything a "Demon" a dark spirit yes but never would I give anything that kind of power that word even brings in.

Blessings, Crystals, Divine White Light and NEVER provoke.

I use two main crystals for personal protections Hematite and Obsidian but here again both crystals are stronger one's and I would not suggest direct skin contacts.

The dark entity will still be there,but the white light protects you from being attacked. To get rid of the dark entity you would have to cleanse the house.

Totally agree ive had problems with negative energies myself but when i researched online the word Demon was thrown at me , That word in itself terrified me making everything 100 times worse just thru my own fear ,
Words like Demon, possession and such like should not be used lightly it doesnt help people and like u say gives them power , when most of the time these so called demons are just simple pain in the backsides lol

The dark is within us and our light moves all it touches. The darkness has no personality so it only excess in the mind as we try to understand it.
