And some religions* offer genuine deliverance. Huh.

"But I'll stay home in my PJs tonight in case someone tries to "control" me. Now let's watch some mind-controlling TV shows. Oh wait...No. I'll read a newspaper...nope. Mind control. Work...hmm.."

*I guess it depends on the religion but is the blanket fear-mania about what is just spiritual traditions proportional?

Rhetorical. Rhetorical.

We fear killers and hate liars but the majority are meek and throw in their lot with them.

A. Unquestioning acceptance.
B. Unbiased consideration.
C. Uncompromising rejection.

I'll guess something closer to C than B, let alone A. But Timothy brings up a great point really. One perspective, albeit from the absolute extreme C position: Imagine a new-age cult responsible for millions of murders and tortures and burnings and hangings and drownings and molestings, all a result of the psychosis that overcomes members who follow that cult's extremist tenets. Would that cult still be around in today's world? Or would it have been disbanded and outlawed by the United Nations, decades ago? The institution of the church gets a free pass in our society, even though it's a sanctuary for criminal behavior... and that is an unbiased fact.

Which part do you have problems understanding?:
The part about how the ego is shamed into participating in atrocities out of fear of reprisals? Or the part about pride overwhelming our judgment? Or the part about guilt and an endeavor to avoid those actions in future?

I would say most people, when confronted with death or torture or reprisals, would succumb. And this is not to classify that as "ego" as much as a power differential which requires examination and regulation if that is possible. I think I got your first point now. I was a bit slow yesterday.

Baile - thanks.

The purpose of religion is to enable one to rise above all dualities which are opposite in nature, to the truth in the middle of all these transient dualities, which is nondual , permanent and attained by becoming the truth itself.

As Krishna says in the Gita, 'The wise man is he who is intensely peaceful in the midst of intense activity, and intensely active in the midst of intense peace.'
