When you hear those footsteps outside i want you to just walk outside immediatly, while still mainting a semi-meditative state, sit down and just ask "Why?" Focus on the reason why your asking.
You won't hear the answer, but you'll 'know' it almost immediatly. Whatever pops in your head first, then go from there, and if nothing pops into your head immediatly, wait a couple minutes then go back in and wait for it to happen again.
Like you said, it could also just be your neighbors, but coming all the way to your window?
Next time you feel something in your room, confront it. But not in a confronational matter, just, once again, ask "Why?"
