Earth is only 9000 years old, etc.

"Planet Earth is about 9000 years old and the study of evolution, embryology, and Big Bang Theory is based on lies straight from the pit of Hell".
A Congressman responsible for crafting US government policy on science and technology.
I have no further comment to make [Today's i newspaper]

I thought it was only 6,000 years according to Church & Bible reasoning?

I'm just wondering how that fellow got appointed to the science and technology committee???? Only in America!

Yeah, this is just embarrassing. How does one become a member of the house science committee? Are there no technical prerequisites?

I definitely would like to see more people in congress with science / engineering / technology backgrounds. I can't quite find the statistics right now but if I remember correctly, the vast majority of congress consists of lawyers and business people. Nothing against them , it would just be nice to have a bit more variety (especially today, when science and technology are so very important for the economy, energy, etc.)

Dont feel bad, Kepler, it's just as bad here. Most of our Members of Parliament have no experience of real life and have never had a real job. Like your lot, we have a mass of lawyers and professional politicians - the scrapings of the bottom of the barrel !

You would be surprised at the amount of people that actually believe this, and think it should be taught is schools.

The funny thing is that, from a higher perspective, evolution is how the divine can be ultimately manifested in the physical world.

A few years ago, tea party darling Michelle Bachmann once asserted on camera that the planet was only 6,000 years old! I really wonder if the people who voted all these morons in to office are still delighted with their candidates? I for one am really embarrassed that the US has sunk to this low level in politics. Our Forefathers were wise beyond their reasoning for stipulating the separation between Church and State. Even they could not have possibly have envisioned these morons in congress.

It is exactly for these reasons that the founders of the US intentionally separated church and state.. look at the nations where religious beliefs are the foundation of government (excluding Bhutan, they seem to have reasoned a workable compromise)..

A well thought-out and fairly accurate bumper sticker: "Dear God, please protect me from your followers"

Be well..

A few years back, trying to match the rhetoric of the "evolution is evil" bunch, I posted a three-part series on one of my blogs called "Creation Science - A Lie of the Devil".

It's been a while, but some might still find it worth a look.
