Hearing name being whispered and shouted when younger.

I wanted to get everyone's feedback on something that happened to me when I was a kid and up until maybe highschool. I can't quite remeber how old I was when it started but I used to randomly hear my name being whispered or sometimes it was a loud shout. It woudl happedn at night and wake me up, or I would be completely awake and hear it as I was walking down an empty hall. The voice sometimes sounded like my mom, or oddly enough it could sound like my own voice. Either way it woudl startle me because it sounded like they were right in my ear when it happned causing me to swirl around in terror.

I never ever told anyone because in my mind I thought my parents would send me to the carzy house. Has anyone ever experienced such a thing?

I think this happens to all people. I know when I was young, it was my mothers voice that I would hear. Usually, I was doing something wrong or was in danger. When I heard her voice calling me, I would go see what she wanted. lol
When my children were young I always knew when they were doing something they should not be doing or were in danger because they would come and see why I was calling them. I explained that when they hear that voice calling them to get home as fast as possible. That they were doing something that was wrong, or they were in danger.
To me and my children, it is the mothers voice. I think it was that way so we wouldn't be alarmed about hearing voices.

It actually happened to me this morning and the voice was my own!
I have a routine at precisely seven thirty each morning, but today I had overslept, so my higher self woke me up half an hour later... awww, she allowed me some extra sleep in time, haha.
Usually, the voice I hear is that of my mother...she and I have an amazing telepathic connection and often feels like a warning.

It's called psychic hearing: clairaudience. Happens a lot with me, usually when I'm trying to go to sleep. Though I don't usually recognize the different voices. Sometimes they speak my name from another lifetime -- just old friends popping in to say hi.

Though sometimes it is startling, since it usually happens out-of-the-blue.

Thanks all for sharing your experience with this phenomenon. I find it strange that this stopppe happening to me now that I am am older. I really think a lot of my psychic abilities have been shut down once I entered my teens. Im am 33 now and really want to get that part of myself back. *Sigh*

Yes Xylia, I have heard those things too. Usually on the borders of sleep. They are not a bit dreamlike though, and really sound like someone called your name. I heard -my moher (when she was still alive on Earth) -my Aunt (who is still alive and thriving) and my husband (who passed many years ago.)
I have heard dogs whining, barking, yawning noisily. And many other sounds that were really 'tangible'. But the "calling my name" one I have heard quite a few times.
I don't know what it means.
When my mother was alive, I heard her call me one night just as I was falling asleep. Taking heed, and wondering if it was a sign that she needed me, or something had happened, I immediately got up and phoned her (she didn't go to bed early and didn't mind me calling her at 11.30pm) She was absolutely normal and ordinary, and nothing was happening.

So I don't know what it may mean. They may be 'hypnogogic phenomena', they may mean very little sometimes, they may mean a lot,depending on the circumstances, or in some cases, they may be clairaudience, or contact with a deceased loved one.....

I have experienced this too - it was very confusing at first - I was about 13 and at my best friends for a sleep over and heard a mans voice loud in my ear in the morning when I woke up say my name. My friend was asleep and her bedroom door was locked.

Since then it has happened several times.

Same voice woke me up again this morning, at the right time. Having had very little sleep, I was running a bit behind...
Knowing I'm not alone is very comforting.

Hi all! I've had this experience many times before. .

My mother is a pacific islander, and I remember this used to happen to me all the time. .

I'd hear my voice being called, and I'd think it was her. I'd go to her and ask if she called me. But she'd always look worried and tell me no, and then immediately tell me to stay by her side or stay inside.

This has been happening for years, although it's stopped for now. . .
but when I was younger, but old enough to understand, I asked my mom why she always got worried when I told her i heard my name being called.

Apparently theres this old saying that if you hear your name like that, it's death calling.

Don't let it scare you though. This has happened to me for years! May just be pacific islander bedtime stories to keep kids in. I doubt it's anything bad though if it's happened to a lot of people, especially me many times- maybe death just wants your number ;)
