I have heard it said that selfishness and greed is a reaponse to fear of not having enough.

I used to grab every chip I could possibly get my hands on as a kid and then steal my siblings and Mums chips! I was afraid that I would miss out and go hungry.

If I knew that there was an unlimited supply of chips, I would have only done that for laughs!

If you haven't watched 'Billions' yet - you'd love it. I think it's HBO.
If you don't have that I bet you could pull up many youtube clips, with
Paul Giamatti, as a NY Attorney General and his wife.

Selfish is only a 'bad word' when it's always selfish, I think.
There is a balance in everything ...cuz ya wouldn't wanna be co-dependent...or always being a doormat.

My 2 cents.

Love this answer.

A certain amount of selfishness is healthy and necessary for a happy life. You can't live your life preventing pain from happening to other people; otherwise, you won't be living your life at all. You will be depressed and unfulfilled in life, and you'll discover that you can't prevent pain from happening to other people from your actions anyways. Try as you might, you will fail.

On the other hand, seeking to give others pain and suffering is not healthy. It is an attempt to fill a void and feel good. Filling that void this way, however, does not last. It's like a drug - it will wear off, and you're left with the same hole.

So what to do? Get in alignment. Filling your hole with healthy self-love is the answer. That includes putting yourself first, but not seeking to hurt others.

Also.. gotta let people be human. You know? It's okay not to be perfect. It's okay to make mistakes. We have to allow ourselves this wiggle room so that we can grow, and not judge others in the process of their growing.

Pain and suffering when fully embraced voluntarily is a form of ecstasy. You say that one cannot "allow for pain". Obviously you don't understand the joy of masochism.

Masochist not only consensually allow for pain they enjoy it. They crave it. They love it. It reminds them they are alive. It brings them closer to God and their sadistic partner. It sends them into subspace - a place of ecstatic bliss.

As a practitioner of sadomasochism I am able to experience a very special and unique connection with my partner from pleasure through pain. There's nothing discordant about it.
You mean you experience pleasure, through pain? It makes no sense. Why and how? I tried to suffer in the past, and I'll tell you, there is no bottom to pain/agony/torment/hell. It is eternal. And ever expanding. So basically, if you were to burn in hell you would enjoy it? So you are satan?
I mean, my wild guess from my personal experience with this is, you have no sensitivity because your nerves are imunized to pain. So if you spend long times in despair, that can happen. It becomes no longer appearant how you're feeling. So there is a seal, that is placed over your heart, spiritually speaking, if that is the case, then a big revelation of shame/guilt opens the seal and you will become very sensitive again. But that wont be enjoyable. This is just my experience how I experienced it, when in consistent despair. That pain feels like relief.
Wish you well, if that is the case.

Yeah, first take care of ourselves, and then take care of others, but consciously knowing we wish to help others for our own selfish desire to do so, to be of service not only to those we help, but by their own greater allowed self realisation of the omni presence of well-being, this goodness comes back to us. Because all is one and one is all. This is easy to understand, when we share the same planet, we live in the same environment.

I woulden't wanna live with fake people, and it is very important to recognize how selfish an individual really is. If they even have been unselfish a little bit, their truth cannot be trusted. For they have hidden it from themselves, and they are not responsible for that which they do not know. No one is 100% selfish or 100% unselfish. And appart from that, we can sometimes be very selfish and sometimes very unselfish. But the truth, tho unknown to many it is, is that we are all eternally and infinitely evermore 100% absolutely selfish. The words allow us to experience a fractal of the truth.

The reason most people on this planet are unselfish and living in lackful truth's, is because most people do not really believe that they exist, so they cannot know how eternal they truely are. Ofcourse these are just words, and words can be distorted heavily, especially by those who are unselfish. They don't want to believe that God loves them. It takes a very selfish person to take that leap of faith and find out the eternal truth. Most people wait untill they die.
